The research activity of the last decade has been mainly devoted to the functional characterization of some plant cell cycle regulators and DNA polymerases. In the case of E2F transcription factors, their role during cell proliferation and development was investigated.
Recently, the scientific activity has partly shifted towards applied aspects with particular reference to the production of recombinant proteins of commercial interest using transgenic and transplatomic tobacco plants (molecular farming and molecular pharming).
The common feature of both lines is the use of molecular genetics tools.
