Education:
He was educated at High School Liceo Classico "A.Maffei" di Riva del Garda where he reached the Diplom in 1975 (60/60) and at "the University of Padova where he was graduated in Chemistry summa cum laude in 1981 (110/110 cum laude). The Master thesis "EPR investigation of exciton triplets in molecular crystals of charge-transfer complexes" was carried at the "Physical Chemistry Institute" of Padova under the supervision of prof. Carlo Corvaja. Then he moved to the University of Trento where he started his research activity in marine natural products chemistry and gained a permanent position as Associate Researcher in 1986 in the Bioorganic Chemistry Laboratory at the Physics Department of the University of Trento. Since 2002 he is "Associate Professor" in Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Trento (Italy). He is a Member of the Italian Chemical Society and of the Italian Protistology Society
Research activities:
He is author of about 150 scientific publications on refereed International Journals of Organic Chemistry and Physical Organic Chemistry and he has discussed these scientific results in Invited or Oral communications in national and international Conferences. He is a peer reviewer of national/international research grants and of prestigious International Journals.

During the years his attention has focused on 4 main research areas:
1) Natural products chemistry through investigation of structural, synthetic and biological aspects of marine secondary metabolites, isolated both from micro- and macroorganisms. Isolation, structural characterization of new molecules, total synthesis, micromolecular chemotaxonomy, drug design and discovery, lipid profiling of natural membranes, bio-prospecting, environmental and analytical chemistry, biomass analysis, sustainable development are the main aspects tackled in our approach. 2) Biophysical and biological chemistry: bindings in non-covalent host-guest complexes, supramolecular chemistry, MS and NMR measurements on artificial membranes, liposomes, micelles and bicelles, structural characterization of pore-forming peptides. 3) Physical and Theoretical Chemistry: NMR kinetics measurements on metal-catalyzed processes (borohydrides), conformational analysis, mechanistic investigations of ion-molecules processes in MS ion-sources, gas phase oxidations of nucleobases, ab initio computations on small-medium organic molecules or complexes, vibrational analysis of natural products . 4) Food chemistry: structural characterization of grapes derived natural products, investigation of the molecular mechanisms in the fruit ripening
