The research field regards mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in mycobacteria and in Burkholderia cenocepacia, a cystic fibrosis pathogen. Her laboratory has identified the target of a new antitubercular drug, belonging to the class of benzothiazinones, as well as the mechanism of resistance to this drug. Both discoveries have been patented and one of these patents has been licensed to Sentinel Diagnostics. On cystic fibrosis pathogens, her group is involved in the study of drug resistance due to efflux pumps, having established several collaborations with Italian and foreign partners.
